Night and Day

The night looked upon the day
With a wry moonlit eye
“You are too bright
Hiding no mystery
Laying bare all things
Naked in your light
With firey beams
You show too much”

The day looked upon the night
With a piercing, shining eye
“You are too dark
Shadowy and chill
Playing with fears
Casting blindness upon all
In your ghostly shade
You hide too much”

The stars looked on
Locked in a distant dance
And marveled
“Do they not know
The Sun and Moon
Are but two eyes
Gazing from the same face?”

Spring Springing

Warm breezes have returned
The snow has melted away
Robins hop and peepers call
Announcing Spring to the world
Daffodils pierce the damp earth
To show their yellow faces
To a matching sun
Lilacs bear budding leaves
With the promise of perfumed blooms
Soon to come
And as I watch
The Summer Triangle rise
In the early morning sky
I know
The long days
That we wish were even longer
The days of sunshine and play
Are not far away

Waiting for the sun

Waiting for the sun to rise

Cold wet night seeps into my bones

The wind moans under its own chill breath

Carrying away the smoke of my cigarette

The sound of strings and woodwinds from my window

Carrying away my thoughts

Scattering them across the world

In a hazy, spiraling swirl

Waiting for the sun to rise

Chase the faceless nothingness away

Bring something new

Begin something

Throw open the doors of perception

The doors of possibility

Let the hinges of my mind unfold

Like a book dropped

Falling open to a new page

Waiting for the sun to rise

Watching the minutes flicker by

Hours disappear like drying puddles

‘Til I can rush towards freedom

Brief and sweet

Home again, where I work

To fill no other man’s pockets

Only the coffers of my soul

For the sun to rise

Vacation Gold

Crystal water

Floating weightless

Beneath the bluest sky

And golden sunlight

There’s nowhere to go

Nothing has to be done

Just breathe

And enjoy life

The limitless possibilities

Of hours unbound

Not a dark cloud in sight

Except for the specter of knowing

When vacation is over

Time will again

No longer be mine

So I float away

Forget the future

Because today I work

For myself

And the sun pays my wages

In gold

Sun Could Shine

**Song lyric written October 1994**

The sun could shine

But not today

The sun can’t shine

While your away

Beams may poke

Through the clouds for a while

But what’s the use

Just remembering your smile

The sun may shine

But it won’t feel the same

The sky hasn’t changed

But it’s a different game

There’s nothing left

That feels like it did then

It’s been too long

To ever be that way again

Maybe the sun should never shine

The sky should be dark all the time

Maybe the sun should never shine

We’re not the sunshine kind

Maybe the sun should never shine

Why shouldn’t the sky be blind?

Maybe the sun should never shine

We’re not the sunshine kind

Are we?

Lunar Powered

I choose the night

Or it chooses me

Silken mist filling the space

Between inky blackness above

And moist green below

The moon is my guardian

My companion this night

As always

When freed by the clouds

Both those floating ghost-like

Past that enlightening face

And those

Fogging my senses

Distracting me

From the milky light

The sun is sweet

The day, divine

But I am lunar powered

The magical light of night

Charging me

Filling me

With visions of myself

They slither thither on the floor

Flowing slowly towards the door

Excitement rages all around

Glowing embers on the ground

And nothing can shine so far

That can burn like your heart

Your mistress’ eyes shine like a spark

Stealing, chasing in the dark

And when the sun falls down on her

You feel her soft red kisses blur

I see you sliding through the room

Faintly melding with the gloom

I can feel you smile at me

Piercing my heart with a beam

And nothing could dispel the myths

That are hidden in your kiss

Your mistress’ eyes shine like a spark

Stealing, chasing in the dark

And when the sun goes down on her

You feel her soft red kisses blur

Sound of Speed

Beats pulsing through my bones

I see you standing all alone

Light and darkness become one

All the colors start to run

Art in motion, swaying slow

Moves me where I want to go

And beauty comes and beauty goes

Cinders burning in passion’s throes

Reach out and touch the heat within

Find holy bliss in all your sin

All stand like stone or move so fast

For the meek will nothing ever last

The fire burns for those who dare

To hold the sun and embrace its flare

Those headstone ones standing like the grave

No one will reach out to save

The light of night and the sound of speed

Illuminate what our hearts need

So take the wheel and steer it true

To close the space between me and you
